  • Goodbye World

I started this blog to argue with folks TheolgianCafe. I loved the anonymity! Not knowing anyone, I could type away not caring about hurt feelings or dented friendships. Somehow, along the way, I begun to collect "friends."

"If someone wants to read me, sure!" I decided to accept any and all friends requests. I've accumulated a fairly large friends list (well, large for me). This was a mistake. Xanga has become for me an unweldly stream of updates, reccomends, and comments. I'm constantly lost in this forrest of irrelevency.

The great thing about Xanga is the web of readerships it builds, and my persistent debating/trolling on TheTheoliganCafe has attracted a like-minded readership. In the months since start, I've found a bit of a voice. With an audience in mind, presentation is motivated and focused.

A cocktail of real lifeand laziness have led to inconsistent blogging. The well-packaged polemics become balanced by petty forays into Xanga drama. Original thoughts with curt regurgitation.

I don't know, I just feel too bogged down. I don't have the heart for xanga-cide, so this will serve instead: An indefinite vacation from huginn.

    Oh, and ravens are cool:

  • Atheists and Censorship

With Easter comes faith, brightly colored eggs, and entries on God.

I've noticed a bit of a blowback against atheists blogs of the hard-left. Trun intoned a bit of frustration and Drummin_Buckeye made a call for moderation. In his entry, Drummin_Buckeye highlighted In_Reason_I_Trust, as an example of what's wrong the religious discourse on Xanga.

As much as I appreciate Reason's spirit and his entries, I have reservations about his commenting style and his impatience with Christians. But Drummin_Buckeye's implicit call for a halt of this sort of blogging-- his implicit call for censorship, got me angry.

I responded with the following comment:

    -----------------------------------

We all blog our own ways. Xanga is a venue for expressions of each of our visions our way. I actually agree with many of your characterizations of In_Reason_I_Trust, I disagree with your larger thesis: Fuck you for telling us how to blog. Fuck you for trying to set the standard.

Insidiously, your argument assumes credulity of Xanga as a whole. Nearly all of us are old enough and well read enough to understand that each person and each blogger is different. One bad apple doesn't taint the barrel. It is condensending to assume this stupidity of your readers.

It is well within Reason's rights to form the expectations and the context for his blog. Just as some of us put our accounts on Friend's lock or blog to a specific audience, Reason communicates to the hard-atheist crowd.

In a different blog, I just admitted that Reason, to me, is "everything a debating Xangan shouldn't be," but this doesn't mean he has no place. I appreciate his vim, and his fighting spirit. I appreciate the humor of his blog's entries (as exclusive as they may be). To me, and many others, Reason occupies a niche. While he doesn't matter to you, he does to his readership.

You are entirely correct in your criticism of the winnowing effect of his blog's expectations. I agree that his style kills discussions, but where you're wrong is the extra step you take in larger condemnation.

If Reason isn't for you, ignore him. If you don't like the blogging trends he helps propagate, try to dwell on it. But at the point where he isn't making a proactive attempt to hijack or troll your site, you sir, have no right to ask him to stop.

In your larger criticism, you are commiting a crime greater than bad taste, and a crime greater than unreasonability: That of censorship.

And good sir, kindly fuck off.

I really liked your debate for Evolution theory in the post "When Science Goes Wrong". I took Biology during summer, which included a debate of this nature, so I actually know the points you were making. Also, I think your site is quite interesting. Brutally honest, yet realistic.
